Hi, the celebrity line-up for this year’s TIFF red carpet is pretty awesome! I’m really looking forward to the event but problem is, I don’t even know when it is. I just know it’s sometime between September 8-18. Any help is appreciated! Full points :) Thanks!

The TIFF’s held at various theatres and venues in Toronto.
So are red carpet screenings.

No reserved seating. Get their early if you are going with friends or you won’t be sitting together.

Do male adult film actors face stiff competition?

September 15th, 2011

Yeah, but the business has a way of getting rid of the dead wood.

I formed a Movie Makers Club at my high school and I want us to compete in festivals and film competitions?

September 12th, 2011

But I don’t know how to make this happen.
Should I just start by calling around?
Who should I call, colleges?

Talk to the teacher that is in charge of your group… they are the only ones who can arrange outside school activities.

Here is the website which you can briefly look at,
http://www.thimunqatarfilmfestival.org/

Grand prize (best picture) of 2500 Euros .. but each winner of either story, cinematography, sound or editing will be getting around awards and money as well.

The submission of the movie is not until January 31st 2012. So you have plenty of time.
Spread the word and don’t hesitate to contact me! My email is thimunqatarfilmfestival@gmail.com

Don’t worry about being in Dallas, on the website it states "Students who have their films nominated for the Best Picture award will be flown out to Doha to attend the Film Festival." This means all flights and accommodations will be covered. (Only if you are nominated!)

Please read all terms and conditions when producing the video, it can be independent or team work, but only one director must be assigned, who will be the one receiving the award.

Kind regards,
Thimun Film Festival Executive team.

What is a "Film Out Of Competition" at Cannes?

September 7th, 2011

@Aladdin- Seriously? Do you think I’d post this if it’s so "self explanatory?" Thanks for taking yourself out of the running for BA. If I knew what it meant I wouldn’t posted the question.

Basically for a film to be judged for an award at Cannes (or most other film festivals) there is a panel of judges that decide if a certain film is worthy.

Every year there are certain films that the judges feel deserve to be shown as a festival but for some reason does not exactly meet the artistic criteria for it to be judged. An example from the past would be Star Wars Episode 2. Obviously it was a big blockbuster film that has some merit in the cultural lexicon of cinema but clearly as an artistic piece worthy of being judged…it falls a little short. So it was allowed to be screened during Cannes but under the category "Out Of Competition" so it was not included on the voting ballots.

Am from india my ambition must be a film director , i like to see some international film…..?

September 3rd, 2011

I like to see some international film, can you tell which movies is best for improve my knowledge and which type of movie need to see film makers….. give the movie name

If you are looking for a simple film with great direction, the one I would suggest is Amélie directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Its a french movie but you can view with subtitles. The film has excellent execution and is considered one of the best direction to make a simple story look fabulous.

The details of the film is as follows:

Amateur film competitions for high school students?

August 31st, 2011

Ok, so my boyfriend creates these amazing movies, he just created this one short film that he was hoping to enter in a contest but he learned that the music he used for the film is not allowed in the contest. Does anyone know of a film competition that a North Carolina High School student can enter into. This particular film is probably around 5-6 minutes in length if that makes any difference. It would mean so much to him if anyone could help, he really wants his talent to be known, and he does have talent.

There are dozens of film competitions (they’re called youth film competitions if the directors MUST be under the age of 18) around the NC community. NC is one of the top film states in the nation (behind CA and NY of course), so typing such terms into google will bring up a large list.

However, all competitions will usually prohibit the use of copyrighted music. If the music is not an original composition, or if it the rights to use the music have not been purchased, than the film itself cannot be considered an "Original Short-Film"

Oh! I also was a transfer student in America for about 2 months, if that adds to anything…:/ I don’t think I’d need to apply for financial aid either, if that increases chances.
The thing is NYU is highly selective in admissions. I’m worried that I might not be competition for other people who apply. :-/

I’d say your chances are pretty good.
