UNICEF: Climate change and children

Friday, December 18th, 2009

This film is an entry to a micro-documentary film contest, ‘Vulnerability Exposed: Social Dimensions of Climate Change.’ Please visit www.worldbank.org/sdccfilmcontest and vote your favorite film.

BALI, Indonesia, 12 December 2007 — As part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia, UNICEF held a series of events to highlight the effects of global warming on children and to ensure that young people are involved in debate on this issue.

At a panel discussion, international delegates discussed the impact of climate change on children, particularly those living in less developed countries.

“Children are more likely to succumb to natural disasters,” said Uganda’s Environment Minister, Maria Mutagamba. “Children are born into this climate change problem — trees being cut, rubbish being burned. These are serious issues affecting a child’s health and future.”
